So they piled the faggots together, and put the Rocket on top, and lit the fire.
`This is magnificent,' cried the Rocket, `they are going to let me off in broad daylight, so that every one can see me.'

The Rocket was very damp (Ракета была очень влажной = отсыревшей), so he took a long time to burn (поэтому у нее ушло много времени, чтобы загореться; to take (took, taken) time — требовать времени, занимать время). But nobody saw him.
Then he began to feel a curious tingling sensation all over him.
`Now I am going to explode,' he cried. `I shall set the whole world on fire, and make such a noise, that nobody will talk about anything else for a whole year.' And he certainly did explode. Bang! Bang! Bang! went the gunpowder. There was no doubt about it.
But nobody heard him (но никто ее не слышал; to hear (heard)), not even the two little boys (даже те двое мальчуганов /не слышали/), for they were sound asleep (так как они крепко спали; sound — крепко, сильно).

`Good heavens (о Боже; heaven — небеса, небо)!' cried the Goose (закричал Гусь). `It is going to rain sticks (собирается пойти дождь из палок; to rain — идти, литься о дожде);' and she rushed into the water (и он поспешил броситься в воду; to rush — бросаться, мчаться, нестись).
`I knew (я знала; to know (knew, known)) I should create a great sensation (что я произведу огромную сенсацию; to create — создавать, творить; произвести),' gasped the Rocket (задыхаясь, произнесла Ракета; to gasp — дышать с трудом, задыхаться), and he went out (и потухла; to go (went, gone) out — выходить; погаснуть).
